Social networking has taken the world by storm and particularly our youth. Social networking sites are in the hundreds, such as Myspace, Bebo, Plaxo, Tagged.com, Badoo, and Bahu the list long, and worldwide. It has taken over our daily lives, people are not checking their emails anymore they are checking their social network sites, on a daily basis. Facebook was created on February 4th , 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg. Facebook is a free service and has 124,000,000 registered users. Australia’s two main social network sites, besides (Adult Friend Finder), is Myspace is aimed at a younger crowd from 13 to 18. Within the last 12months Facebook has taken Australia by storm. Facebook is open to 13 and above, but the members seem to be 20 and older, it seems to be a great site to catch up with lost acquaintances and school friends.
But let me ask you a question... Would you tell the person that you sat next to, once on a train, what you’re cooking for dinner or how much you’re missing your boyfriend? Hmmm I think not. This is not healthy people are seeing everything we do, every minute.
Facebook is not healthy!
In the top section under you name, there is a section to write what you are doing..Example:
Stacey Woods is: so going to the Illawarra tonight to have a glass of champas!
And once you have "updated your status" every one of your friends, is informed on your status. So people can know where you are, or where your going… hmmm not right. When adding photo’s you can limit who can see your photo folders, which is a good thing., but this is only if your aware of this tool.

I heard an interview on Hamish & Andy on 104.1 FM where "Irish Dave" had set some rules with his mates regarding Facebook. Take a look. "Irish Dave and his star chamber of mates have instituted a new rule for Facebook for guys to follow... It's the no girl's on Facebook rule. Yep, that's right guys can't have any females on their Facebook profile with the below exceptions1) Friend's wives.2) Married work colleagues.3) Blood relatives.4) Female members of religious orders. Why does the rule exist? Dave states that these are the reasons:1) The 'Status' update - Why do girlfriend's, ex-girlfriends, and prospective girlfriends need to know this?2) The joint photo needs to go.3) Ex girlfriends will have access to all of your male friends and family for revenge purposes. "This just proves that not only I notice that you have to beware when using this site, you never know when you can may piss off the wrong person, they now have access to everyone you know. One person can write something on your wall and everyone will see it.
This gives them the opportunity to shame you in seconds. So as you can see Facebook is such a powerful tool, and very addictive. Is Facebook affecting us in a positive way, my opinion is no, this is not healthy.
