I think the article is right. Australians do place too much emphasis on the amount of Gold Medals athletes win and not enough on the things that matter.

People are being evicted from their homes because of high interest rates and petrol prices. But we care more for how many gold medals Stephanie Rice won at the Olympics than what we do about the homeless.

Shame on us.
